cancun immigration form

(tourist card)

Paperwork that you will be asked to complete on the
airplane before your arrival in Cancun include an
immigration form (often called a "tourist card"), and a
customs declaration form, so make sure you have at
least one black ink pen in your backpack.
At right the immigration form is shown front and back.
It is a carbon copy form that creates a copy for the immigration officer and a copy that you keep. You will have to turn this "tourist card" in when you leave the country, so put it in a safe place, and DO NOT LOSE IT!
Below, we fill out a sample form using the name
John Lloyd Stephens, who was the original explorer in
the Yucatan in the 1800's (more information).

FIRST LINE, ITEM 1: NOMBRE (NAME)
Write your last name, followed by first name, and finally middle name. It's a good idea to use the same name as in your passport instead of a common name that your friends and family use.
SECOND LINE, ITEM 1: SEXO (SEX)
Do not write "Yes Please!" Just make an X over the
art that looks like you.

SECOND LINE, ITEM 2: EDAD (AGE)
Tell the truth!
SECOND LINE, ITEM 3: MARITAL STATUS
Check your status in one of the boxes.
Box 1=Single
Box 2=Married
Box 3= Divorced
Box 4= Widow(er)

ITEM 4: OCCUPATION
There are 10 boxes (marked 0 through 9) with occupation choices that make very little sense.

Box 0=Professional
Box 1=Manager, administrator, or administrative official
Box 2=Employee of public or private office
Box 3= Merchant or seller
Box 4=Farmer, livestock-raiser, fisher, etc.
Box 5=Driver of vehicle
Box 6=Worker
Box 7=Personal services
Box 8=Member of Armed Forces
Box 9=Student, housewife, bondholder, retired, minor

FIRST LINE, ITEM 1: LUGAR DE NACIMIENTO (PLACE OF BIRTH)
Finally, a question that makes sense. Write the name of the country where you were born.
ITEM 2: NACIONALIDAD ACTUAL (PRESENT NATIONALITY)
Another easy question for most.
NEXT LINE: DOMICILIO PERMANENTE (ADDRESS)
Theywant to know where you live, but you'll have to write small;
they don't give you much room.

FIRST LINE, ITEM 1: PASSAPORTE NO. (PASSPORT NO.)
This is located inside the front cover. They don't leave enough room for our long passport numbers, so we always run over into the area next to it.
FIRST LINE, ITEM 2; EXPEDIDO EN (ISSUED AT)
The counry where your passport was issued.
I

BELOW THIS IS AN AREA FOR "OFFICIAL USE ONLY"
Do not write in the large area shaded light blue

.

FINALLY: FIRMA DEL DECLARATION (SINGNATURE)
Turn the form over and sign your name (we've circled the area in the iimage at upper right). THEN, lift that sheet and sign the back of the other copy. You should sign on the back of two sheets.
YOUR FINISHED. Now let's work on our Customs form.

If you lose your tourist card
Keep your card in a safe place (the resort safe is probably the best). Double-check that your tourist card is safe the day before you depart. If something is wrong, you'll have extra time to take care of the matter. If you have an afternoon flight, I would go to the airport in the morning
