This beautiful island off the coast of Cancun is one of our favorite places to spend a week in the sun. At the north end is an incredible stretch of beach that slowly gives way to turquoise, calm water, protected by a small islet that provides a break for the waves. At the south end is a towering bluff, constantly pounded by the angry ocean. Atop the bluff is a Mayan temple and an amazing view of Cancun (especially at night). Between those two extremes is an adventure best taken at the relaxing pace of a golf cart. let the Isla Mujeres map and travel guide show you how.

Map 1,
side A
Our main map is dedicated to helping you get acquainted with the island. You'll find descriptions of all major landmarks and attractions around the island, beach club basics, plus information on the popular Contoy island and whale shark tours (whale sharks are seasonal). Once you've learned the basics of the island, it's time to explore. Don't worry, it's impossible to get lost on this narrow island.

Our hotel map show you all of the options, both in downtown, the mid-island colonias (where most local residents live), and south end. Downtown mainly consists of small mom-and-pop hotels, exactly as we like. The mid-island offers a lot of rental homes, and the south end has larger hotels mixed in with a few beautiful rental homes. For those on a budget, hostels and economical hotels are easy to find (although rooms fill up quickly during high-season).

This side of the restaurant map deals with the incredible dining you'll find mid-island and along the south end. This is where you'll find many of our favorites, all of them worth a special trip, even if you are staying in the downtown area. You'll find fresh seafood, authentic Mexican, great Italian, and a Cuban restaurant on the water that will provide memories and great vacation photos.

Downtown has its own share of great restaurants, especially the rustic, thatched-roof seafood restaurants along the west shore. In the center of town is avenue Hidalgo, a pedestrian-only street lined with restaurants, shops, and bars. This is where most visitors go for an evening stroll.

You won't want to miss out on a snorkeling tour from Isla Mujeres. The most popular spot is El Farito, located only a few minutes boat ride from the shore. Here you'll enjoy a variety of fish while effortlessly drifting along on a gentle current. For the more advanced snorkelers and scuba divers there are dozens of reefs to match every level. Fishing charters and day cruises are also available if you tire of the beach. At night, the most popular attractions are the bars and lounges scattered throughout downtown. We introduce you to all of them so you can find one that fits your mood.
