(about 75¢ each way).

stores. Market 23and market 28 offer an interesting

Tours & activities
Tours will be the same as available in the Cancunhotel zone. However just walking around downtown
and visiting the markets is a self-guided tour in itself.
Atmosphere
This is a big city, with lots of traffic congestion, yet wealways find it interesting because it is so different from
where we live. We always feel safe walking through
downtown but we are more careful at night (as we are
in any big city).
Avenue Tulum (the main street through downtown)
used to be where most people in the hotel zone came
for evening entertainment and dining. The area is now
slightly run-down and not a great place for shopping
unless you dare visit Ki-Huic market and haggle with
the souvenir vendors.
Who visits
The hotel guests range from traveling businessmento backpackers. You'll see a higher percentage of
European tourists downtown than in the hotel zone;
perhaps just an overnight stop on their exploration
through Mexico.
