Transportation
There are three sections to Tulum:• Downtown.
You can easily walk anywhere within downtown.
Taxis are available to take you to the beach or ruins.
A bus station provides transportation inland and
to Playa del Carmen; colectivo vans are available
between Tulum and Playa del Carmen.
• Tulum ruins.
Taxis are waiting at the entrance, and also at the
highway intersection.
• Beachfront.
There are taxis at the major hotels, most are within
a short walk of the smaller hotels. You'll see a lot of
people walking or bicycling along the main stretch
of road.

Nightlife
Small "disco's" come and go in Tulum.Most nightlife is in the form of a musician
or rock band at a local restaurant.

Shopping
There is a grocery store in Tulum city; the main streetis lined with souvenir and handicrafts vendors.
Hotels
Mostly small hotels and thatched-roof cabanas. Thereare now also several boutique hotels on the beach.

Restaurants
You'll find excellent dining in Tulum, most at moderateprices. There is also an excellent tiny restaurant that
serves Mayan dishes with an elegant presentation
(worth a special visit).

Tours & activities
Tulum Mayan ruins are here, and Coba Mayan ruinsare an hour bus ride inland. There are cenotes in the
area for swimming, but the biggest attraction is
hanging-out on the beach.

Atmosphere
Extremely laid-back! Most beachfront hotels are eithervery small, or thatched-roof cabanas. No matter who
you are, you'll feel like a "hippie" after relaxing in Tulum
for a few hours.
Downtown is a quaint, tiny Mexican city. Quiet except
for the occasional semi-truck or bus traveling
through town.
Who visits
Mostly younger Europeans and Canadians in the rustic bungalows, with Americans at the budget to mediumpriced hotels.
