January often brings light showers off-and-on throughout the day. We personally don't think the threat of rain should be a major concern if planning a January vacation.

• How rain could affect your trip: Rainfall in February is erratic, but you typically don't get downpours. The most common type of rain brings a cloudy day with off-and-on showers. In some cases there have been several days in a row, and there was one year when 6 days in a row were like this.

The seasons are changing, and with it, the weather.
In May, things become very inconsistent.
In 2005 there were 5 days of rain spaced throughout the month; 4 of these were thunderstorms.
In 2002 there were 6 days of rain; 4 of them during a 1 week period. the only positive is that it came mainly in the form of showers.
In 2004 and 2005 the rain was spaced evenly throughout the month, so everyone seemed to get about 1 day of showers during their vacation.

With an average of 12 days of rain, you're almost sure to get a rainy day, or at least a rainy afternoon. We've taken dozens of trips during June, and had good luck except for one trip, when it rained almost the entire 7 days.

How rain could affect your trip:
In September it's not uncommon to get several days of rain in a row. There are even stretches of 3, 4, 5 and 7 (usually caused by a tropical storm or hurricane).
This makes it really hard to plan a trip in September. Based on records, you'll either have great weather, or terrible weather. There's just not much in between.

October

During 3 of the last 4 years October has had less than 1.5" of rain, even though it fell over an average of 10 days. It might be cloudy, butlight showers like this won't ruin your vacation.
On the other hand, October 2001 had 16 days of rain with a total of 14". You definitely would have been wet on your vacation.

You'll stand a chance of having rain for a day or two during your week in Cancun. Hurricane season is winding down, but in 2005 hurricane Wilma hit Cancun and dumped up to
30" of rain in several days, and really messed up a lot of vacations.
