The beautiful stretch of white sand known as the Riviera Maya
runs 75 miles (119km) from the southern edge of Cancun to the city of Tulum and the start of a protected biosphere. The area includes five small
cities (Puerto Morelos, Puerto Aventuras, Akumal, Chemuyil, and Tulum), dozens of smaller beach communities, plus the major tourist destination
of Playa del Carmen (so large that it requires its
own series of maps).

Researching the Riviera Maya map and travel guide was an incredible feat requiring over one-month of research and nearly six months of computer time assembling the project. We dined at over 100 restaurants, visited hundreds of attractions and covered thousands of miles of highway, rock roads, dirt paths, and beautiful beach.
The snorkeling was amazing, the food incredible, and the work exhausting. We hope you enjoy the result of our efforts.

No matter what your preference in accomodations you'll find it along the Riviera Maya.
Looking for an all-inclusive resort? There are over 100 of them available in every price range;
Prefer a small hotel or private home on a quiet stretch of beach, we list dozens of options; A rustic
cabaña on the sand, of course it's available. You'll even find hostels and camping available for
those on a real budget. Our hotel and Rental properties map shows them all.

Attractions along the Riviera Maya range include beautiful clear-water cenotes (natural pools
of water fed by underground rivers), Mayan archaeological sites, caves, ziplines, cultural-themed
parks, golf, excellent snorkeling, all types of watersports, dolphin swims, ATV tours, horseback
tours, and even camel rides. Our favorite attractions are isolated beaches where you can get away
from those all-inclusive crowds. Read about all the options and plan a few special day trips
with our Riviera Maya attractions map and guide.

This quiet, laid-back city features wide, beautiful beaches, moderate to inexpensive accomodations,
great restaurants, excellent snorkeling and...well actually that is about it. If you are looking
for nightlife Puerto Morelos is not the place; that's what makes it so special for the rest of us.
There's only slightly over 100 hotel rooms in Puerto Morelos, many of the places to stay are
condominium and private home rentals. Our Puerto Morelos map and travel guide will show you all
of the available options in this quaint oceanfront town.
Map 2,
side B
The Puerto Morelos map and travel guide takes up both sides of a map. We share our favorite
restaurants both in the beachfront city and the "pueblo" located across the highway.
(We love to explore the pueblo and share some great restaurants in this area that you won't want to miss.)
You'll find excellent snorkeling on the reefs and shallows just offshore,
plus there are incredible cenotes (natural pools of water fed by underground rivers) located nearby.

Akumal is a must visit if only for snorkeling among the sea turtles in Akumal bay. Another
excellent snorkeling attraction is Yal-Ku lagoon, a natural aquarium protected from the
ocean surf where you'll see hundreds of beautiful fish in calm, clear water (perfect if
snorkeling with children).
Most accomodations in Akumal are condominium and private home rentals. Other than the
snorkeling there are few attractions in the area other than warm weather and beautiful beaches.
Map 3,
side B
The Akumal map and travel guide not only shows you all of the hotels, restaurants, and attractions
along the waterfront; we also explore the "pueblo" located across the highway, where
you'll find a few great restaurants, along with pharmacies, a medical clinic, markets, and bakeries.

Tulum beachfront is one of the most beautiful areas in the entire Yucatan. The white-sand
beaches are lined with small hotels, thatched-roof cabañas, and beachfront restaurants.
The atmosphere is laid-back and the view is heavenly. We consider Tulum (and a visit to
the Tulum Mayan ruins) a must visit. With the Tulum map and travel guide visiting this
area—even using public transportation—will be as easy as enjoying a tropical breeze.
Map 4,
side B
It takes both sides of a map to share everything that the Tulum beachfront has to offer (plus
the seperate Tulum Mayan ruins map and self-guided tour). Don't miss the snorkeling and the
view of the magnificent ruins from the water. Also, don't miss out on a long walk along
the beach stopping at various beach bars for a drink or snack. Each has a personality
and character of its own. Our Tulum beachfront map and travel guide lets you plan your
afternoon in paradise before you even begin your vacation.
Map 5,

Tulum city has one major flaw—it's a long distance to the beach. But, we make it our
home quite often when staying in the Tulum area. Budget hotels; excellent, moderate-priced
restaurants; and the ability to take an evening stroll; make it seem almost like home
for us. We rent bikes and make the long bike ride to the beach, but there is also a
shortcut through the Tulum ruins area that makes the ride much quicker. You can also
catch a taxi or try to catch a ride on the workers van that makes several departures
throughout the day.
Map 5,
side B
Tulum city offers some incredible
dining expriences, including a few of our Riviera Maya favorites—all at economical prices that
won't blow your budget. You'll find fresh seafood, excellent Italian, Mexican specialties,
great bakeries; trendy eateries, and rustic taco shops. We've dined at nearly all of them
to bring you our favorites. You'll even find recommendations for evening drinks, including
an authentic Cuban restaurant where you can experience some incredible rums.
Map 6,

You can't fully enjoy the Riviera Maya without knowing how to get around. Our transportation map
and guide will show you how to navigate the coastline using public transporation (we avoid rental
cars so we can enjoy a few drinks on the beach). We explain how to use buses, colectivo vans
(that stop anywhere along the highway), and taxis to visit all of our favorite attractions
shown on this series of maps. Detailed maps of major bus and van stops make it easy to
find your way around as if you were a local.
Map 6,

Puerto Aventuras features a man-made marina surrounded by private homes, condominiums,
and a few hotels. A golf course development completes this gated community. The main
attraction here is the dolphin swim program that brings tourists from nearby hotels
along the Riviera Maya; plus great restaurants overlooking the marina (we recommend
our favorites). This map and travel guide provides complete information to spend
an afternoon, evening, or week in Puerto Aventuras.
Map 7,

The Tulum Mayan ruins are an incredible attraction, but actually getting to the site can be a little
confusing and frustrating. On this side of the map you'll find detailed information about the
shopping area located along the highway: Restaurants, hotels, parking, guides, attractions
like the Voladeros de Papantla flyers, souvenir markets, plus transportation information.
On the
other side of this map you'll find a detailed
self-guided tour of the Tulum archaelogical site.
Map 7,
side B
The Tulum Mayan ruins are perched atop a towering bluff overlooking a section of turquoise-blue Caribbean
— the view alone is worth the visit. Bring swimwear and a towel, there is also a beautiful beach at
the base of the bluff. This detailed map provides a self-guided tour of the archaeological site of Tulum
including descriptions of the main temples, hidden features to look for, and history of the site. Plus,
we'll show you how to easily explore the beach clubs south of the ruins after your visit.
